We, The Guardians Three
We, The Guardians Three is a small adventure game poem (poem game?) made in Bitsy and was written in the poemish nonahexagonic mandiometer (or something). It is my official submission for the SA Game Jam 2023. The jam's theme was "To Make A Place Your Home".
Unfortunately I had to reduce the scope considerably because of heavy loadshedding (controlled blackouts - a daily reality for many of us in South Africa) and life drama so the middle act is missing entirely and I had to gut the third act to its essence. However the game is still playable from start to finish and I hope you enjoy the experience. I think the story I was trying to tell is still there.
Controls: Arrow keys to move and advance the dialogue boxes. Nudge your avatar against highlighted objects to interact with them.

We, The Guardians Three won both the Best Hobbyist and Best Narrative awards in the 2023 SA Game Jam!
The judges had this to say: "We, the Guardians Three is a sublime journey, post shipwreck, that subtly subverts the Cast Away genre. The shifting color palette, like a soundtrack, conveys the evolving mood of the narrator. There's an economy to the production, and it leaves us feeling that each element is carefully chosen, each element existing to progress or embellish the gently unfolding narrative."
Thank you to the judges, Free Lives for hosting the competition and sponsoring the prizes, and everyone who played the game and commented (and made a video!).

That was fun & brought a genuine smile to my face. It felt so nostalgic; bringing me back to the 2000s when I got my first computer & seeing Cast Away for the first time. Thank you for sharing such a delightful game
I'm glad to hear it brought you a moment of joy!
